Connect. Educate. Empower
Every Nurse Needs Health Literacy Training

Are you reaching your patients? If they have low health literacy like 80 million adults in the U.S., they might be missing important health information. Nursing excellence means more than being hands-on. It means meeting patients where they are to deliver exceptional care.

IHA’s Health Literacy Specialist Certificate Program equips you with tools to communicate more effectively and make a bigger impact. It empowers you with key health literacy knowledge and skills to reach every patient, every time.

  • When groups with high and low health literacy were compared, limited literacy resulted in 6% high readmission rates and hospital stays that were longer by two days.
  • When patients have access to accurate, easy-to-use information, they can protect and promote their health by adopting healthy behaviors and following recommendations. Proficiency in health literacy improves health status, reduces health-service use and costs, and extends lives.
  • Healthcare organizations have a unique opportunity and responsibility to implement health literacy training resulting in better healthcare utilization, and a positive impact on patient satisfaction, healthcare safety, and financial outcomes, along with a lower risk of legal problems.

“As nurses we provide a lot of patient education, but we often see how little they retain due to information overload, stress, lack of sleep, anxiety, etc. I took this certificate course to do better for my patients. I was able to gain tremendous knowledge on the subject and have become passionate about health literacy. I apply the health literacy principles to my everyday work and have seen a great impact on my patients as well as my fellow staff members as I continue to promote health literacy in my institution.”
